But what if you want something that’s #beyondtheguidebook? Here are 3 easy ways to get good restaurant recommendations without simply relying on the Web.

1. Cookbooks 📚! Yes, flip through cookbooks of your favourite chefs or cuisine. A lot of chefs will talk reminiscently about their favourite restaurants growing up or where they first had the dish of their dreams. This is a really fun way to get some hidden gem restaurant suggestions in the countries you’re going to.

2. Chefs/servers 👩🏻‍🍳 at your favourite local joints. Always ask the servers or the chefs where THEY would go for a great meal. You can get some wonderful off-the-beaten path recommendations this way. A chef we spoke to recommended we try @neigedete in Paris and it as divine!

3. Hotel concierge 🏨. Hotel concierges are usually locals and will have some great recommendations for good food places that aren’t generally listed on the tourist map. Again, make sure to ask where THEY would go. Ask where THEY like to eat, not just what they THINK visitors to their country would like. Asking where they would personally go for a great meal can elicit some wonderful hidden gems to add to your itinerary.
